Why Vermont Gets Climate Action Wrong

Hoodwinked in the Green(washed) Mountains

Hoodwinked in the Green(washed) Mountains is an environmental justice education series based in South Royalton, Vermont. It looks hard at the false climate solutions promoted by corporate interests and at the government institutions that fail to hold them to account: carbon trading, techno-fixes, and the sales pitch that a familiar way of life can continue unchanged. The series also examines Vermont's own climate politics and asks where the state is falling short.

The project is led by Earl Hatley, Chris Wood, and the Environmental Justice Law Society of Vermont Law & Graduate School. The speaker series is co-hosted by BALE at VLGS. Programs are recorded and posted to BALE's YouTube channel.

Hosted by the Environmental Justice Law Society and the Energy Law Society and co-sponsored by BALE. The Rights of Nature movement holds that all entities within an ecosystem deserve legal rights. Keynote by Tom Linzey, followed by a panel of six: Tom Linzey, Earl Hatley, Emily Boles, John Moody, Rebecca Jim, and Juliana Arnold.

Oakes Building, Room 210, Vermont Law & Graduate School

Hosted and moderated by Earl Hatley, with panelists Jim Dumont, Debbie New, and Mieke Riddlebarger. With electricity prices rising sharply, the panel examined the policies and agreements meant to shield utility customers from unfair, rapid, and excessive rate increases, and what energy affordability could look like alongside the shift to renewable sources.
